  45.    (1) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
  46.    ------------------------  
  47.    MSCODE.exe is a complete menu driven "MORSE CODE MADE EASY" learning 
  48.    tool that allows you to set the pace. The 3 major modes are LESSONS, 
  49.    PRACTICE and WORD LIST. You can switch between internal speaker and 
  50.    sound card, change the tone, number of words per minute, how many 
  51.    characters are sent at a time and weather or not the characters are 
  52.    displayed as they are sent. The program tracks your progress and 
  53.    displays a score based on level of difficulty at the end of each 
  54.    lesson.

  56.    "Use Ctrl key as telegraph key" and "Send text file" are reserved
  57.    options for the registered version.
  58.

  61. (2) DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE:
  62.  
  63. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying 
  64. it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected 
  65. to register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request 
  66. registration while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. 
  67. With registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using 
  68. the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  70. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the 
  71. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as

  97. MsCode is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the 
  98. user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your friends, but 
  99. please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The 
  100. essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer 
  101. users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide 
  102. incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If 
  103. you find this program useful and find that you are using MsCode and 
  104. continue to use MsCode after a reasonable trial period, you must make 
  105. a registration payment of $25 plus s/h and any sales tax that may apply, 
  106. to Brad's Software. The $25 registration fee will license one copy for 
  107. use on any one computer at any one time. You must treat this software 
  108. just like a book. An example is that this software may be used by any 
  109. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer location to 
  110. another, so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one

  114. Commercial users of MsCode must register and pay for their copies of 
  115. MsCode within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn.

  118. You are encouraged to pass a copy of MsCode along to your friends for 
  119. evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their copy if they find 
  120. that they can use it.  All registered users will receive a copy of the 
  121. latest version of the MsCode software.

  123.    (4) LICENSE:

  125.    MSCODE is not and has never been public domain, nor is it free ware. 
  126.    MSCODE is copyrighted by Ken Bradford and any unauthorized use 
  127.    inconsistent with the terms of this license is an infringement of 
  128.    the copyright.

  130.    MSCODE may be used without registration for 30 days for evaluation. 
  131.    The use of MSCODE beyond the 30 days, requires registration.
  132.    See (14) REGISTRATION for registering the MSCODE software.

  134.    The use of unlicensed copies by any person, business, corporation,
  135.    government agency or any other entity is strictly prohibited. After 
  136.    the 30 day evaluation period, you must either register the software
  137.    or remove it.

  139.    A single user license permits a user to use MSCODE only on a single 
  140.    computer. A purchaser of a single user license may use the program on
  141.    different computers, but may not use the program on more than one 
  142.    computer at a time.

  148. SPECIAL OFFER TO TEACHERS:
  149. Teachers in the public schools who register MsCode can share their 
  150. registered copy with students in their immediate class room and are not

  154.    including but not limited to decompiling, disassembling, or otherwise

  182.         The reason that there are two copies of FILE_ID.DIZ and MSCODE.DOC
  183.         (one compressed and one that is not compressed) is that some BBS's
  184.         will not load a ZIP file if their software can't find the DIZ file.

  186.         Most people will not load a program if they can't read the 
  187.         documentation file first which is a good practice.

  189.    (6) DISTRIBUTION:

  191.              You are welcome to give unaltered copies of MSCODE.ZIP to
  192.              your friends or upload it to your favorite bulletin board.

  194.              MSCODE may not be distributed in conjunction with any 
  195.              other product without a specific license to do so from
  196.              Ken Bradford, with exception that Vendors may distribute 
  197.              the latest evaluation copy of MsCode's zip file on CD-ROM 
  198.              provided that all files, including this documentation file 
  199.              are intact. VENDORS AND DISTRIBUTERS MUST NOT ADD THEIR 
  200.              OWN ADVERTISING TO THE ZIP FILE.

  206.              may make MSCODE available for downloading only as long as

  210.              must not exceed ten dollars.

  231.    IBM PC and most compatibles. Windows 3.1 or higher, color monitor, 
  232.    mouse and hard drive are required.

  234.    (9) PROGRAM HISTORY:

  236.    I am one of those people that can't remember the previous characters 
  237.    sent. Way back in October of 1984,I developed a program for my own 
  238.    personal use that ran on the TI 99/4A home computer.The program allowed 
  239.    me to select and hear the characters sent as words.It became easy to 
  240.    learn once I quit listening for individual dits and da's.
  241.    
  242.    In 1986 I rewrote "MORSE CODE MADE EASY" to run on a TI PC. It had a TI 
  243.    three color plain graphics board and was updated for IBM with a Hercules 
  244.    CGA card. I still hadn't added the shareware screens or published MsCode 
  245.    even then because there weren't that many TI PC's around and they were 
  246.    switching to IBM motherboards . I bought a new 486/66 IBM compatible in 
  247.    February 1993, started Brad's SoftWare and have been publishing some of 
  248.    the software that I have written over the years. Since that time I have
  249.    upgraded to faster machines with more memory and hard drive.
  250.  
  251.    Other software packages available by Brad's Software is "Texlotto", and
  252.    "TexCash5" which are complete Texas Lottery Data Analyzers, now 
  253.     available in both DOS and Windows versions.

  286.    (11) INSTALLATION:
  287.    -----------------
  288.    FROM FLOPPY:
  289.    Insert the disk into a floppy drive. In Windows File Manager, select
  290.    File/Run and type d:\setup (replace the "d" with the drive letter).
  291.  
  292.    FROM A DIRECTORY:   
  293.    If the files are compressed into a zip file, you must decompress 
  294.    the file using WINZIP, PKZIP or some other de-compressing utility 
  295.    first. 
  296.    In Windows File Manager, select File/Run and type d:\TEMP\setup 
  297.    (replace the "d" with the drive letter and replace TEMP with the 
  298.    directory that holds the files). 
  299.    
  300.    You will be asked which drive to install MsCode to with C:\MSCODE as
  301.    the default. If you have the DOS version of MsCode and want to keep 
  302.    it, you should rename one of their directories, otherwise the Windows 
  303.    version will overwrite the DOS version.
  304.    
  305.    The data file "SCORES" from the DOS version will not display correctly
  306.    in the Windows version and you will need to restart storing your scores
  307.    if you have been running MsCode for DOS.
  308.  
  309. ------------------------------ HELP FILES -------------------------------
  310.    You can run the MsCode help files by clicking it's icon in the Windows 
  311.    Mscode Group. In the MsCode program, you can either click Help on the 
  312.    Toolbar or press function key F1 from any screen.
  313.    
  314.    MsCode's help files give you a snapshot of the MsCode screens and a 
  315.    full discription on how to use MsCode.
  316.  
  317.    (12) FUNCTION KEYS:    
  318.    -------------------
  319.    F1. Runs the help files.
  320.    F2. Displays all test scores.
  321.    F3. Erases all test scores.
  322.    F4. Ends exercise and displays score (otherwise ends at 100th test word).
  323.    F5. View MORSE CODE TABLE (International Morse Code list) You can also 
  324.        use a text Editor to add your own characters to the TABLE and your 
  325.        own comments to the text. The file also contains the formula for 
  326.        length of dits, dahs, spacing between characters and words).
  327.    
  328.    SPIN BUTTON CONTROLS:
  329.        (There are three spin button controls. One each for the SPACE 
  330.        MULTIPLIER, WPM and TONE).
  331.        See "CONTROLS" in the Help file for instruction on clicking on spin 
  332.        buttons and labels to change values.

  334.    (13) PROGRAM'S TOOLBAR MENU OPTIONS:

  336.    LESSONS: 
  337.      There are 27 lessons arranged from least to most difficult so that 
  338.      the user can progress at a pace that they select. The user can change 
  339.      the tone, number of words per minute, how many characters are sent at 
  340.      a time and weather or not the characters are displayed as they are 
  341.      sent. At the end of each lesson, the user is given a score based on 
  342.      the level of difficulty for that lesson.
  343.  
  344.    PRACTICE:
  345.  
  346.      PRACTICE is made up of four options:
  347.  
  348.      You can select "HEAR WHAT YOU TYPE" which displays and sends what 
  349.      ever you type.
  350.  
  351.      Or you can select"TYPE WHAT YOU HEAR" which is the same as LESSONS
  352.      except that you are asked to enter a list of characters that you 
  353.      need practice on. The program randomly sounds out the dits and dahs 
  354.      for the characters in the practice list. At the end, you are given 
  355.      a score based on speed, number of characters sent at a time and the 
  356.      level of difficulty, the same way that the lessons are scored.

  358.      Or you can select "PRACTICE KEY" (available only in the registered
  359.      version), which allows you to use the Ctrl key as a telegraph key 
  360.      that not only sounds out the dits and dahs, but displays them and 
  361.      the characters that the MORSE CODE represent.

  363.      Or you can select "SEND TEXT FILE" (available only in the registered
  364.      version), which allows you to load a text file and sound out in MORSE
  365.      CODE any part of the text file that you have hi-lighted.

  367.    WORD TEST:
  368.      The user selects one of the 27 word lists that start with short easy
  369.      words to copy and graduate to longer harder words to copy. The user is
  370.      asked to type the words as the dits and dahs for the characters in the
  371.      randomly selected words are sounded out. At the end, the user is given
  372.      a score based on speed, number of characters sent at a time and the 
  373.      level of difficulty the same way that the lessons are scored.

  375.    LOGO: 
  376.      Displays Logo screen that shows telegraph key sounding out the dits 
  377.      and dahs as "MORSE CODE MADE EASY" is put on the screen in large 
  378.      letters.

  380.    REGISTER:
  381.      This option allows you to: 
  382.          1. Enter your registered name and number.
  383.          2. Change the registered name and number. 
  384.          3. Remove the registered name and number.
  385.          4. View / Print Registration Order Form (ORDER.TXT).
